Tom McCardel Associates is a small practice specialising in meeting the architectural needs within rural communities whether for commercial, community or residential development. Established 1985, we have designed and managed projects both on mainland Argyll and the Islands.

We aim to create robust individual buildings which inhabit the landscape without visual or environmental imposition.  The interplay of space and light, within a building designed fit specific user needs.

We specify the most suitable materials with the emphasis on low impact systems.  Similarly we design buildings that suit Argyll’s construction sector in order to be cost effective.  We integrate heat sources which combine function and cost effectiveness.  We use a ‘whole house’ concept for the integration of heat retention and energy input resulting in a human-friendly environment and low running costs.
